MSTC 64g |

This microphone consists of a T-shaped microphone amplifier body with two MK 4 Colette cardioid capsules. The capsules are mounted 170 mm apart with an included angle of 110° ("ORTF" system). Like the KFM 6 this is a "head-related" arrangement: The interaural arrival times and differences in intensity resemble those at the human head, due to the spacing and directivity of the capsules. Since pressure-gradient transducers are used, the frequency response at low frequencies is not as flat as with the KFM 6. The pickup angle is ca. 95°. This is probably the simplest stereo technique in general use. In almost any situation it produces an evenly-spread stereo image with good localization, often without the need for spot or ambient miking. Setup is particularly quick and simple, since the capsule spacing and angles are fixed, with only a single stand and microphone cable required. Placement is relatively uncritical, and the technique produces good results even in the hands of an inexperienced or hasty user. The MSTC 64g accepts any standardized phantom powering from 12V to 48V, with the maximum sound pressure level being slightly reduced (ca. 4 dB) when powered by 12V. The designation of the complete microphone corresponds to that of CMC microphones. "MSTC 64g" designates the microphone amplifier type CMC 6, equipped with two MK 4 capsules, and with the microphone amplifier body and the capsules having a gray, non-reflective surface finish (Nextel). Note: The two MK 4 capsules normally supplied with the MSTC 64g are always a matched pair. Accessories: The SG 20 stand clamp is included. In many situations the use of an elastic suspension is advisable. For reasons of weight the A 20 S with stiff elastics should be used with the MSTC 64g. |
